Learn Something New With YouTube

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Are you taking advantage of all you can learn online? I am an avid Internet user but something hit me a few weeks ago when I was on the video website YouTube. I saw a lot of videos that seemed to be tutorials published by average people just like you and me. How did I know that? Well just looking at the quality of the video and the background it didn’t appear to be a professional trying to sell something.

This prompted me to do some searches for things of interest to me that I’ve always wanted to take a bit of time to learn but I have never done. The first was playing the guitar. I’ve been talking about learning guitar for years and my wife has even told me to just go start learning rather then talking about it. However I still drag my feet on it and don’t ever seem to get around to doing it. I’m aware that I can get a good guitar course for a couple of hundred bucks online, but I still am not 100% committed to spend the money.

So my point, and I promise I do have one, is that there were literally hundreds of free beginner guitar lesson videos all over YouTube. Now as someone who cannot play guitar it’s tough for me to say whether they were the quality I’d want to learn from or not, but I figured at least some of them must be up to snuff with what a pro guitar instructor could teach me during evening lessons.

If you haven’t before used YouTube you really need to check it out. It’s almost a search engine all of its own for certain topics and I believe that in the future more and more information will be shared via video rather then text. Take a peek when you have an hour you want to kill, but be careful it doesn’t take long to get lost in the vast number of videos out there.
